James Comer, a Yale University child psychiatrist, it has been utilized in more than 1150 schools nationwide. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Comer, M.D., director of the Yale University Child Study Center and associate dean of the Yale School of Medicine, is a leading scholar in minority child. Since 1968 when the model was created by Dr. Comer is the Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicines Child Study Center in New Haven, Connecticut. His publications include Beyond Black and White, Black Child Care, Maggie’s American Dream, School Power, and Waiting for a Miracle: Why Schools Can’t Solve Our Problems and How We Can. Comer has received many awards for his work, including 49 honorary degrees, the Heinz Award for the Human Condition, the Healthtrac Foundation Prize, and the Harold W. Comer, M.D., is the founder and chairman of the Yale School Development Program, Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study. He also completed one year of residency training at the Hillcrest Children’s Center in Washington, DC. Between 19, he trained in psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine and its Child Study Center. He is best known, nationally and internationally, as the creator of the Comer School Development Program. He received his AB from Indiana University, his MD from Howard University’s College of Medicine, and his MPH from University of Michigan. Comer is a leading child psychiatrist who has served as the Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center since 1976.
